Castle Farm Country House

Small is very definitely beautiful in rural tourism, and many guests would infinitely prefer to stay in the Nugent family’s unusual and wonderfully hospitable 18th century farmhouse (which is built around remains of a 16th century castle) rather than the most luxurious hotel. Not that you will have to compromise on comfort as the spacious, comfortably appointed rooms have king size beds and many thoughtful little extras, and there’s a very pleasant guests’ sitting room (books, games, an open fire) to relax in too.

The house blends into the original building in places - the dining room has walls five feet deep and an original castle archway; as well as a delicious breakfast, dinner is served at separate tables in this lovely room, set up with crisp white linen and silver – nothing is too much trouble for Joan and her daughter and daughter-in-law, who love to provide every comfort for their guests.

Outside you can visit the cellar of the original castle and, on the other side, view the rock on which the house and castle are built; landscaped gardens offer a circular walk overlooking the River Finisk – and, as befits a farmhouse, you may watch the milking and whatever other farm activities are in season.

Fishing and walking are also attractions to this lovely place, and it all adds up to a very appealing farmhouse indeed.
