Julie Snoddy, formerly of the charming Sheelin teashop in Bellanaleck, runs this former draper's shop on the corner of Townhall Street and Regal Pass as atea room and café. It is equally delightful and would be hard to pass by.

With a beautiful frontage featuring curved plate glass topped by delicately coloured stained glass panels, it still has the original bevelled glass in the door and a traditional tiled step. Inside, domed windows to the side street, pretty duck-egg blue and berry paintwork, light furniture, distressed white floorboards, a high ceiling and cream filigree light fittings all create a light and airy atmosphere in what is actually a relatively small space.

There’s always hot competition for window tables - one window has a round table, the other a big comfy leather sofa, perfect for relaxing and people-watching – and, in fine weather, pavement seating is offered at five small tables-for-two in black wrought iron with green cushions.

Fans of the Sheelin, famous for its mouthwatering display of cakes and bakes, will recognise the fruits of Julie's skills and creativity. A truly impressive counter display of cakes, (Victoria Sponge Hummingbird Cake, Flourless Chocolate Gateau, for example) together with Julie's signature scones, tray bakes and giant meringues is sure to tempt even the most diet-conscious customer, while savoury options appear on blackboards with favourites such as panini, toasties, quiches and sandwiches made to order. Both savoury and sweet gluten free choices are available and, although mainly self-service, hot and other assembled dishes are served at table.

In a freezer cabinet you’ll find the renowned Glastry Farm Ice Cream, which is made in Co Down and famous for wonderful flavours such as Yellowman Honeycomb, Kilbeggan Whiskey and Chocolate Heaven...

Useful to know about is the Frou Frou Brunch. Served from 11 o’clock on Sunday mornings, when few other places are open in the town, it quickly became a favourite destination.

Food and drinks to take away are a popular option too. There may be a wait at busy times, but service is generally efficient and friendly.

*Julie Snoddy also operates The Lavender Room at Cathcart's Home Design and Garden Centre on the Tempo Road, Enniskillen (close to the town end; Tel: 028 66 323 551)
