All roads in Derry City lead to the Guildhall it seems, and outdoor tables set up on the terraced steps outside this magnificent building overlooking the Peace Bridge will surely beckon you to stop and look at it more closely - and to see what’s on offer inside.
Just inside the main entrance, the aroma of fresh coffee may draw you into a smallish but interesting room on the right - and you will be well-led, as this appealing café is a sister business to the excellent Beach House on the pier at Buncrana (a former winner of our Casual Dining Award).
Like the freshly brewed coffee, both the blackboard listing and a tempting display of freshly prepared foods from the Beach House kitchen speak of quality - the food on offer is simple fare, but all the better for that when everything is lusciously fresh and based on the best ingredients.
Tasty homemade soups and salads make a wholesome snack with freshly baked breads or a gourmet sandwich, and there are pies, tarts and savoury bakes for a heartier lunchtime bite. But many sweet toothed customers head here especially for the freshly baked scones, cakes, tarts and biscuits - just the thing to have at any time of day, indoors or out, with a cup of coffee or one of the Suki loose leaf teas.
With friendly and efficient staff and really delicious food, this is an atmospheric spot to drink in the atmosphere of the city and its fine Guildhall.
