A first for Enniskillen, Laura Oestreich’s health shop and plant-focused café is hitting all the right notes - and you don’t have to be vegetarian or vegan to enjoy this tastily wholesome organic and gluten-free food.
It may be very much with the zeitgeist right now, but - having been raised in the pristine air of the Swiss Alps, where her parents had a heath and wellness hotel - understanding of what makes an enjoyably healthy lifestyle is in Laura's genes.
Working with a like minded kitchen team - pastry chef Paul McSharry, formerly of the Lough Erne Resort, and Lynne Maguire, from The Organic Centre at Rossinver - wholesome deliciousness is what it's all about at The Happiness Trap.
But, while the ethos is admirable, it's mainly the very good food that is attracting a growing number of fans from all over. They come especially to enjoy the super breakfasts (excellent coffees, home made mueslis, granola/yoghurt layer, smoothies...); delicious lunches (hot dishes such as a vegetable quiche or a curry, with a choice of rice and two salads, or three salads, from a salad bar which sports home sprouted seeds amongst the offering); and then the gorgeous bakes and cakes which, of course, are all much healthier than you'd think...
It's easy to see a shared philosophy at work in this innovative kitchen, and also in the shop where foods - teas, coffees, fresh organic vegetables, wholefoods, organic and gluten free flours, for example - rub shoulders with all sorts of carefully selected non-food items including homeopathic remedies, Bach flower remedies, herbal tinctures, health supplements and toiletries...
For many first time customers there's a sense of discovery about the food ,and there's certainly plenty to stock up on too - but don't forget to drop a donation into the Donkey Sanctuary charity box before leaving!
