This popular bar, with its riverside location in the heart of Limerick City and its convivial offering of food, drink and music, appeals to Limerick people and visitors alike.
Conveniently located above the boats that make fast at the pontoon, Richard Costello’s lively establishment - there is music here seven nights a week - has space for hundreds inside and even more outside, on the benches and tables on the bank of the river.
The food has a local vibe - although you may not see suppliers listed, many of the producers/production areas name-checked on menus will be familiar to diners, and they even grow their own herbs on the balcony garden - and the buzz is Irish. (Visitors have even been known to complain that the buzz was too loud for the music.)
The food service begins with breakfast: granola, porridge, French toast, the Full Irish and more. The lunch menu is extensive: you may have salads and sandwiches (with Limerick ham, of course), or something more substantial like the Beef Casserole, made with their own Locke Stout, and on Sundays they offer a selection of traditional roasts.
You may have to work your way through the crowd in the evening when you come for dinner, which you can have in the bar or in the restaurant alongside.
This is good mainstream pub fare conveying a sense of place as the USP. Menus offer plenty of choice and the evening starters include salads featuring Burren oak smoked salmon and St Tola goats cheese, along with hot dishes such as Dingle Bay crab claws. For mains, they have a reputation for good steaks while other popular dishes include the fish pie (\'Sensational Seafood Pie\'), Treaty City Ale Fish and Chips and the O’Loughlin Pork and Leek sausages. Specials on the board are always worth checking too.
No surprises among the crowd pleasing desserts like cheesecake of the day, chocolate & hazelnut brownie, but they do come with homemade gelato.
The bar is a major feature here and, as well as a range of wines, there is a terrific assortment of Irish craft beer, including their own stout. Whiskey is also well represented as are all the spirits. Kerry and Cork brewers are well represented, and Irish cider too, with Longueville House, Craigie\'s and Dan Kelly’s all available.
Great staff and engaging service ensure a good dining experience and visitors, especially, are very taken with the music and Irish dancing.
