There's no way you'll miss the Blue Quay Rooms - the walls are painted with pretty much the brightest blue in the spectrum and it's a prominent building overlooking the harbour, so no directions needed.
It's the latest surge of creative genius from Connemara hospitality legends Paddy and Julia Foyle - and the word 'Rooms' has been selected with care, to distinguish this stylish budget accommodation from its classy elder sister the iconic Quay House a little further on down on the waterfront where, by contrast, there is an emphasis on personal service.
What you get at the Blue Quay Rooms is different but equally delightful: it has all the quirky charm that you'd expect of any project that Paddy is involved with, but it's simpler and very affordable.
The house - which was completely refurbished in 2016 - dates back 200 years in parts and retains a pleasing sense of age, but the important things (plumbing and the fire system, for example) are all new.
You know the minute you walk through the front door that this is budget accommodation with a difference - set off by a striking black and white tiled floor, the inviting stove, gorgeous colours and wonderfully unexpected furnishings and artefacts will bring a smile to the face of the weariest traveller.
Rooms are simpler than those at The Quay House, but they're fun, bright and comfortable - most have harbour views and all have good en-suite showers.
A light complimentary breakfast is included in the room rate, and the cafés of the town are very near if anyone has a hankering for something more substantial.
All round, Blue Quay Rooms is a brilliant addiiton to the accommodation in this scenic town - and the perfect complement to The Quay House.
