3 euro Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality.

Blackwell House

Set in lovely rolling drumlin country on the Armagh-Down border, Stephen and Joyce Brownlees' splendid 5* guesthouse near Banbridge is a delightful property and full of character. And there's lots to see and do nearby too - as a visit to their very informative website is sure to inspire you to go and find out for yourself.
Rooms 3 (1 separate bath & shower, 1 shower only). B&B from about £120 double (single from £78). D by reservation, 7–7.30pm; 3-course Seasonal Menu with Tea & Coffee £35. Mainly an adult desination; no dogs. MasterCard, Visa. abbreviations

Complimentary cream tea for guests arriving between 3 and 4.30pm is just one of the nice little extras offered by Stephen and Joyce Brownlees at their splendid 5* guesthouse near Banbridge - and you don't have to stay here to enjoy this relaxing treat, as non-residents are welcome for Afternoon Tea too, by reservation.

Open since 2014, Blackwell House is set in lovely rolling drumlin country on the Armagh-Down border, and - although its main USP is as a quiet destination for a restful rural retreat - it makes a great base for exploring a wide area, including Belfast and Dublin which are both easily accessible for day visits.

It's a lovely property and full of character. The three bedrooms are very different but all equally appealing - the opulent Colonial room, with its four-poster bed and roll top bath; the Blue Room with separate roll top bath and shower, and the option to have twin beds or a super king; and, decorated in warm yellow tones and antiques, Lily's Room with an en-suite shower room.

Local and homemade food is central to life at Blackwell (a griddle bread baking class is offered); you can have the freshest of eggs from their own hens, and dinner is available too. Enjoyed communally around a fine big table - or at a separate table for two in the Garden Room - it's a seasonal feast, showcasing local foods including meats from Quails butchers in Banbridge.

And there's lots to see and do nearby too - as a visit to their very informative website is sure to inspire you to go and find out for yourself.
