One of the most famous music centres in the west of Ireland, traditional Irish music and set dancing at Vaughan's pub and (previously thatched) barn attract visitors from all over the world. In recent times it has also attracted fans of Father Ted, as the pub featured in several episodes of the irreverent comedy.
In the family since before 1800, John and Kay Vaughan took up the reins in 1970 and always worked hard to ensure that visitors to this attractive old pub had the best possible time. Since 2002, their son Mark has been managing this iconic destination and carrying on two and a half centuries of family tradition.
The pub is homely, with an open fire in the front bar and a garden set up with tables at the back. There is a very hands-on home cooking attitude to the food and the traditional Irish menus (seafood chowder, bacon & cabbage, beef & Guinness stew) are based on local ingredients.
Extensions and refurbishments have brought big changes to the pub in recent years but, in essence, it is just the same as it always was.
