1 euro Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality.

Maurice and Colette O’Donovans’ well-named bar in Bantry is a cosy and welcoming place, bustling with life and ideal for a wholesome bite at moderate prices.

Maurice is the chef and takes pride in using local produce and giving value for money; his menus feature a wide range of popular dishes, many of which are in the house style.

At lunch time, home-made soups and favourites like deep-fried mushrooms with garlic mayonnaise top the bill and are followed by a range of open sandwiches, panini, baguettes and fourly baps and specials such as roast lamb or goujons of fresh haddock.

More extensive evening menus offer dressier dishes as well, including starters like Bantry Bay prawn cocktail or oak smoked salmon salad, and a good choice of main courses including steaks, home-made beefburgers and local Skeaghamore duck with orange sauce as well as a number of fish dishes - including Bantry Bay mussels, of course.

This is one of West Cork's most consistent and likeable pubs and its popularityis well deserved - the wholesome fare and ambience, together with good value and good company, keeps ’em coming back for more.
