1 euro 'Best Budget' denotes moderately priced establishment (max. less than €50pps for accommodation or €35 for 3-course meal without drinks) Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality. Highly Recommended as a Special Place to Stay

Fortview House

Violet and Richard Connell's remarkable roadside farmhouse in the hills behind Goleen is immaculate.
Rooms 3 (all en-suite & no smoking). Unsuitable for children. B&B €50 pps, no ss. No pets. Garden. Closed Oct-Apr. No Credit Cards. abbreviations

Violet and Richard Connell's remarkable roadside farmhouse in the hills behind Goleen is immaculate. It is beautifully furnished, with country pine and antiques, brass and iron beds in en-suite bedrooms (that are all individually decorated) and with all sorts of thoughtful little details to surprise and delight.

Richard is a magic man when it comes to building - his work around the house includes a lovely conservatory dining room, finished with great attention to detail. For her part, Violet loves cooking, and she welcomes her guests with a pot of tea and homemade cake on arrival  - and  offers a fantastic choice at breakfast - juices, fruit compotes, organic yoghurts and local honey, local kippers and much more.

Violet's idea of a 'standard Irish breakfast' is Caherbeg free range bacon & sausages and Clonakilty black & white pudding with tomato and egg, and you can have lots of other cooked treats too, including scrambled egg and smoked salmon.

A little gem.
