Set in two acres of beautiful, well-tended gardens (including a productive kitchen garden), this charming old rectory near Kinsale has a lovely wisteria at the front door and it is a place full of interest. The building dates back to 1690 (Church records provide interesting details: it was built for £250; repairs and alterations followed at various dates, and the present house was completed in 1857 at a cost of £1,160).

More recently, under the hospitable ownership of Gill Good, this classically proportioned house has been providing a restful retreat for guests since 1989, and everybody loves it for its genuine country house feeling and relaxing atmosphere.

Spacious reception rooms have the feeling of a large family home, and generous, stylishly decorated bedrooms have good bathrooms, phones and tea/coffee making facilities. The Rose Room, on the ground floor, has French doors to the garden.

Dinner, featuring home grown and local produce, is available by arrangement (book by noon). Breakfasts are also very enjoyable, and this can be a hard place to drag yourself away from in the morning although there are many things to do nearby, including golf, and it is well placed for exploring the area.

Several self-catering apartments are also available and the whole house may be rented by parties by arrangement. Exclusive use is also offered for weddings, which can be held in the house or in a marquee, depending on numbers, and civil ceremonies can be held in the house.
