Formerly the Stillorgan Park Hotel, this inviting property is a sister establishment to the famous Talbot Hotel in Wexford and, more recently, several other hotels of the same name have joined the group in Wexford, Carlow and East Cork.

It has always been a well-run hotel and, thanks to regular renovations and refurbishment, the colourful modern style is smart and fresh.

Highlights include the helpful staff, stylish reception and lounge areas, and spacious bedrooms - including one suite and some rooms with views of Dublin Bay - have well-finished marble bathrooms and good in-room facilities.

Ample free parking is an attraction, and good in-room facilities for business guests include work space, broadband and complimentary newspapers.

The Talbot Stillorgan is well located for visiting UCD, RTE and many top Dublin attractions, including Leopardstown Racecourse, and a regular airport coach service leaves from the front door. A complimentary shuttle bus is also offered to Blackrock Clinic (2.5km) and preferential rates are offered to patients and their families.

Popular with sports teams visiting Dublin, The Talbot offers teams complimentary meeting rooms and tailored menus and is close to floodlit several all weather pitches as well as a number of major sports venues (including Aviva and UCD).

Conference/banqueting (500/400); business centre, video conferencing, free broadband wi/fi. Children welcome (under 12s free in parents' room, cots available without charge, baby sitting arranged). Fitness room, day spa, steam room.

Rooms 150 (1 suite, 8 junior suites, 132 executive rooms, 129 no-smoking, 6 for disabled) Lift. Room rate from about €99, including breakfast. No SC.

The Purple Sage Restaurant:

An attractive, informal restaurant with welcoming staff and food well above the standard normally expected in hotels. Menus are appealing in a fairly contemporary style, including imaginative vegetarian cooking and healthy options, which have always been a feature.

The range offered is balanced between crowd pleasers such as steaks and more adventurous dishes, possibly including game in season, and good home made desserts, all cooked with care.

The focus at lunchtime is a popular carvery, but a sandwich bar (hot or cold) is also available if you prefer something lighter, and cooked to order meals are also offered in Brass Bar & Grill.
