Set romantically in its own parkland valley overlooking Clifden and the sea, the crenellated Abbeyglen Hotel is family-owned and run in a uniquely hands-on style by legendary hoteliers Paul and Brian Hughes.

A major building programme saw the addition of six new superior rooms, and the refurbishment of the existing bedrooms, which are all unusually spacious and have character.
Most recently, a beauty and relaxation centre has been added, and the outdoor swimming pool that was a feature in the garden at the front of the hotel for many years was re-designed - as a fountain and sun patio.
The Abbeyglen is a truly Irish hotel of the most relaxing kind, and it makes a great base for all of the activities the area has to offer, notably walking. There's a four-mile circular historical walk from the hotel and a brochure is provided, detailing many of the beautiful local walks including some around the nearby Twelve Bens Mountains; enthusiasts should ask also about the island hopping walks.
