It may be modest-looking from the road, but this 1960s hotel enjoys a superb shoreside location on the edge of Dingle town and has won many friends over the years.

A well-run, family-friendly hotel with organised entertainment for children in school holidays, it has a good leisure centre, also a health and beauty centre, the Peninsula Spa. An attractive feature that pleases all guests is a policy of dedicating floors for family use to avoid disturbing those without children.

Public areas in the hotel are roomy and comfortably furnished with some style - and full use is made of sea views throughout. Constant improvement and refurbishment has always been the policy and, while there are still some standard bedrooms, there are now more executive rooms and junior suites.

Although best known as a family holiday destination, the Dingle Skellig also has good conference and business meeting facilities and it makes an excellent off-season business destination.

* Dingle Skellig Hotel was the winner of our Family Friendly Hotel Award in 2007.

Conference/banqueting (300/230); video conferencing by arrangement; broadband wi/fi. Children welcome (under 3s free in parents' room; cots available free of charge, baby sitting arranged; crèche, playroom, children's playground, kids club).

Rooms 111 (8 suites, 5 junior suites, 28 executive, 31 ground floor, 1 for disabled, 1 shower only, 76 no-smoking). B&B €105 (€59 low season), ss €20. Lift; 24 hr room service. Garden, fishing, leisure centre, swimming pool, spa. Golf nearby

[*Dingle Benner's Hotel (see entry) is in the same ownership.]

Coastguard Restaurant:

Attractively located on the sea side of the hotel, the restaurant is in a large conservatory area and, while not a fine dining destination to compare with some restaurants in this exceptionally well-endowed town, you may be sure of a pleasant dining experience here. There is a commitment to using fresh local ingredients and the cooking is sound; there’s always local seafood, but well-balanced menus offer plenty of choice for everyone, and friendly, solicitous staff do everything possible to ensure that all is well.

NB: Parents wishing to eat in the main restaurant with children should inquire about available times for family dining.
