Beautifully situated in a courtyard just off the narrow, bustling streets of the city centre, with only the River Nore separating it from Kilkenny Castle, this fine hotel enjoys the city’s premier location, and has a lovely big riverside terrace at the front.

This Kilkenny hotels bedrooms and public areas have recently been refurbished to a very high standard. Classic bedrooms have a courtyard view while the 20 deluxe rooms, some with private balcony, offer superb views of the river and Kilkenny Castle.

During the day and early evening, The Riverside Bar serves good bistro-style food The outdoor terrace, situated directly alongside the river, has unrivalled views of the Castle and is hugely popular with locals and hotel residents. Afternoon Tea is also available daily in the bar and residents lounge during the colder months and on the terrace during the summer. Finger and open sandwiches, freshly baked scones, macaroons and fruit cake are just some of the treats.

The Riverside Restaurant

With impressive views across the river to the Castle, this aptly named restaurant takes full advantage of its riverside setting and the atmosphere is that of a restaurant rather than a hotel dining room. Recently extended and refurbished, the ceiling to floor windows, beautifully appointed tables and comfortable high-backed chairs make this a very elegant room in which to dine - and the food is good.

Popular starters might include duck liver pate with ciabatta crisps and fig and port chutney or Feta cheese salad, crisp apple, baby leaves, roasted nuts with a lemon dressing.

Good hearty mains offer pork belly with braised red cabbage, celeriac puree and red wine jus or pan fried salmon fillet served with couscous, sautéed chorizo and cherry tomato.

Desserts include Baileys cheesecake with chocolate sauce and sticky toffee pudding served with toffee sauce.

The early dinner and Sunday lunch menus are particularly good value, and charming service adds to the occasion.
