The Langton family’s historic bar was re-designed some years ago by the internationally acclaimed designer, the late David Collins and, although initially controversial (especially the ultra-modern stained glass window which now graces an otherwise traditional frontage), it is a wonderful space to be in and attracts a varied clientèle.

Everyone enjoys the vibrant atmosphere, and the excellent ingredients-led contemporary European bar food: a dish like confit of pork sausages with creamy potatoes and red wine onion gravy or black cherry jus, for example, will probably be based on the superb lean sausages hand-made nearby by Olivia Goodwillie (who also makes Lavistown cheese), and the fresh cod’n’chips in a crispy beer batter will be just in from Dunmore East.

More recently the bar has re-invented itself again and the Marble City Tea Rooms, below the main bar/restaurant area, offer lighter food like coffees, teas and pastry, 9-7 daily - there’s outdoor seating for a couple of dozen people and has access to a lane at the back of the building.

This place is incredibly popular but you may expect good service, even at busy times; well chosen small wine list.
