Ireland's tallest hotel, this dramatic cigar-shaped 17-storey building right on the River Shannon waterfront in the centre of Limerick enjoys panoramic views over the city and the Shannon region.

Acquired by the Dalata Hotel Group in 2016, the former Clarion became the Clayton Hotel Limerick with local man Pat Reddan at the helm as General Manager.

Some major renovations have been undertaken since then, but clean-lined contemporary elegance has always been the interior style and it suits the building and its setting well. A semi-open plan arrangement of foyer, bars and dining spaces also takes full advantage of the location.

This Limerick Hotels business facilities are excellent and bedrooms - which vary more than is usual in hotels. due to the unusual shape of the building - are offered in several pleasingly simple, modern schemes.

Rooms are strikingly decorated with modern colours warmed by cosy tweeds, and all have air conditioning and everything that makes an hotel room a comfortable retreat including complimentary WiFi and 32" Flat screen LCD TV - although, oddly, the lower level of windows is too high to allow you to savour the view while sitting down. The top two floors offer suites and penthouses for long lets.

Residents have unlimited use of leisure facilities, and several decked balconies and terraces at different levels encourage guests to enjoy fine weather.

The aptly named Waterfront Restaurant is an attractive contemporary room with river views, used for breakfast and for group dining.

Famous for its summer 'BBQ Fiesta' nights, the glass-fronted Grill Bar Bar & Restaurant offers meals with a view all day (12 noon-10pm) and The Red Bean Roastery also offers daytime coffee and cakes.

Although this landmark building is easily located, gaining access to the hotel can be tricky for those unfamiliar with the city’s one-way system; a nearby car park is used by the hotel and it is advisable to get clear instructions before arrival. (There is a moderate charge for parking.)
