One of the area's longest-established hotels, the Downhill House Hotel has been in the Moylett family for three generations and is known for its hands-on hospitality and relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
Formerly a country house, it first opened in 1938 and, quietly situated on the banks of the River Brosna in Ballina, still enjoys an almost-rural location just a short walk from the town centre.
Following an 8-month closure for renovations, the hotel re-opened in 2008 with a smart new facade and a spacious new lobby and reception, along with more seating areas and a conservatory overlooking the gardens. While giving the hotel a major face lift, it hasn’t lost the comfortable old-fashioned feeling enjoyed by the guests who keep coming back year after year.
It’s a good base for fishing holidays with golf also nearby, good on-site leisure facilities and Children’s Club (and even a Children’s Check-in Desk), and plenty of interesting places for family outings, it’s not surprising that it’s so popular for traditional family holidays.
The pretty setting also makes it popular for weddings. Short break offers are often available.
