Restaurant Merlot:

A destination for local diners, situated just inside the main entrance and overlooking the busy street, this attractive restaurant has three distinct areas decorated in contrasting styles; all are well appointed with white linen, smart table settings and comfortable chairs, and the welcome is warm and efficient.

Menus offer a good variety of modern international dishes, with some local ingredients named - organic Clare Island salmon, for example, and Newport lamb; pan seared Clew Bay scallops with black pudding, cèpes and Madeira jus is a speciality.

Food is well presented and enjoyable, although it is not a place to linger as this busy restaurant usually does two sittings each night.

*An interesting and well-priced lunchtime menu is offered in the Plaza Bar.
