Previously the Country Club Hotel, the Montenotte is perched high over the city in a fashionable residential area, and it offers a pleasant alternative to city centre accommodation.
The trump card is the view over the city, but good leisure facilities, a quiet location and ease of parking are also persuasive and it has had major refurbishment since coming into new ownership in 2016.
This Cork hotels aptly named Panorama Bistro and Terrace enjoys a magnificent views over Cork city and all meals are served in this attractive bar and restaurant area. A lot of thought has gone into developing modern menus with a broad appeal, and non residents are welcome for all meals, including breakfast (which starts unusually early - a boon for business guests).
In fine weather the terrace area is a great boon, at any time of day, and the bar is a popular spot to enjoy something from the wide ranging drinks menu, including cocktails and craft beers.
There's pride of place in all aspects of the hotel and, while the Bistro menu majors in popular choices like steaks (traditional Beef Wellington is the house speciality), there's a nod to Cork's food traditions in dishes like the English Market Tasting Plate.
While not especially large, the smartly refurbished bedrooms are unfussy and available in various combinations, including twins and family rooms, all with good in-room facilities - flat screen television, tea & coffee facilities, complimentary wi-fi etc - and some have city views.
The Motion Leisure Centre facilities include a gym, 20m swimming pool, sauna, steamroom and Jacuzzi; personal training and swimming lessons are available.
Family breaks are offered and, for longer stays or small groups, the 2-bedroom Residence Apartments offer all the hotel services, with more space and privacy.
All round the Montenotte has become a very desirable destination - it was always a special location but, since recent investment, the standard now matches the view.
