Casey's Hotel Glengarriff

A small, moderately priced and very hospitable family-run hotel of the kind that gave Ireland a special reputation for hospitality, and that tradition has been at the core of their business down through the years.
Rooms 19 (10 executive, 10 shower only, 3 single, 2 family, 15 no smoking); free broadband wifi. B&B €59-65 pps, ss €16. Children welcome (under 3s free in parents' room, cots available free of charge). Dogs permitted (staying in bedroom). Closed 15 Dec - 15 Feb. MasterCard, Visa, Laser. abbreviations

Glengarriff is famous for its mild Gulf Stream climate and lush growth - especially on nearby Garinish Island, with its beautiful gardens - and it was a very popular destination with the first 'tourists' in Victorian times.

Casey's Hotel dates back to that era, having been established in 1884, and it has been run by the same family ever since.

It is a small, moderately priced and very hospitable family-run hotel of the kind that gave Ireland a special reputation for hospitality. That tradition has been at the core of their business down through the years and it's been upheld with pride by the current owners, Donal and Eileen Deasy, since 1992.

Smartly presented on the street, with fresh paintwork and tubs of shrubs and hanging plants along its frontage, the hotel is a quietly welcoming presence in the centre of the village and the contented guests relaxing over a bar meal or enjoying tea on the patio include local families as well as visitors.

The public areas are all very well maintained and pleasant, notably a peaceful sitting room with comfortable armchairs and a grand piano that overlooks the back garden, and the  bedrooms are all recently upgraded. The style is attractive - slightly modernised yet in keeping with the old building - and they have all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay including nice bathrooms, tea & coffee facilities and satellite television.

This would be a pleasant base for exploring the beauty spots of West Cork and South Kerry, and there is plenty to do in the area - including walking, garden visits, kayaking, whale watching and food trails.
