The location of this fine town centre hotel will come as a pleasant surprise - just off  Mullingar's main street and yet built around a beautiful old house situated elegantly in spacious surroundings, with the town park on the doorstep and the River Brosna flowing through the grounds - it’s all distinctly fairytale.

The original house has an interesting history, having been built around1810 as a residence for the County Surgeon and, surprisingly perhaps, was still lived in as a family home for its original use until recently; however its most famous historical connection is with the author Maria Edgworth, who is said to have stayed here in the early 19th century.

The old house is now used mainly for its impressive public rooms, including the atmospheric Old House Restaurant (good food and service, lovely ambience), Berty's Bar, and also a very pleasant reading room and drawing room.

Accommodation is in the new part of the hotel, entered over a little bridge into reception, and bedrooms are very comfortably furnished in an easy modern style and soothing colours that won’t date too quickly.

Popular for weddings and business/conferences, it’s also an ideal destination for a weekend away.

Staff are friendly and helpful and there’s a welcome emphasis on service.
