Cosily located in a basement dining room Dublin restaurants just a stone’s throw from leafy St Stephen’s Green, and Il Posto is a long running and much loved classic Italian restaurant.
In good weather, diners can choose from a small selection of tables outside on the footpath, perfect for watching the world go by, or can head down the stairs and into the calming dining room. A dark wooden floor and dark ceiling provide contrast to the neutral walls decorated with black and white artwork and bright mirrors.
Enjoy homemade focaccia from Chef Oscar Holgin while browsing the classic Italian menu with antipasti, pasta, risotto, fish and meat dishes. The usual suspects, such as penne carbonara, mushroom risotto or fillet steak, offer the expected comfort factor, but there are also a few interesting choices, such as the Venetian-inspired pan-fried lamb’s liver or a classic Caprese salad enlivened with sweet slow-roasted tomatoes.
The wine list is exclusively Italian and relatively short, with a good selection of wines available by the glass or carafe. It’s overall well-priced with a few bottles available for that special occasion.
The food at Il Posto is hearty and filling, using the best of fresh ingredients to deliver big flavours and simple presentation. Friendly professional staff arrive at the table with big smiles and even bigger plates of food.
Il Posto is not a particularly budget outing, but if you’re not in a rush, and willing to pay a little extra for location and experience, then it is definitely a spot for lovers of classic Italian food.
