Scenically located in located in a bay that looks out towards the famous Daunt Rock beacon, Roberts Cove Inn is built on the site of an old mill, where a community of monks once milled corn.

Owned since 1988 by Denis Quinn, this warm and friendly place has character in spades – and a reputation for atmosphere and good food, in both the bar and restaurant.

Soup and sandwiches are available at lunchtime during the week but full bar meals are available each evening and feature a good choice of popular dishes, including seafood (even lobster, when available) but also a wide range of other dishes such as steaks various ways, lamb cutlets, curry and pasta dishes.

In the restaurant, a reasonably priced table d’hôte and an à la carte menu overlap to some extent with the bar meals (a speciality of roast stuffed porksteak with wine & mushroom sauce features on both menus, for example), but restaurant menus are more structured and offer more prime dishes such as roast crispy duck à l’orange, rack of lamb with sherry & rosemary sauce and sole on the bone.

Desserts are homemade and there’s a choice of coffees or tea to finish.

The hearty cooking suits appetites sharpened by day on the water very well, and service is good humoured and efficient.

Surprisingly, given its out-of-the-way location, this characterful inn is open all year, including the restaurant.
