Bru Bar Bistro

A very popular meeting place - and, with its long hours and accessibility, has become a focal point for the community
Seats 120 (outdoors, 40). Food served daily, 12-10.30pm (to 10pm Sun). 2/3 course early bird D €17.95/21.50, 5.30-7pm; also a la carte; house wine €22. SC 10% on groups 8+. Children welcome (high chair, childrens menu, baby changing facilities); air conditioning. Closed 25-26 Dec, Good Fri. MasterCard, Visa, Laser. abbreviations

This large building in Drogheda town centre is built out on stilts over the river and, although the development may seem incongruous when seen against the old town from across the river, it is a rather handsome building and a very popular meeting place - and, with its long hours and accessibility, has become a focal point for the community.

Stylish in a comfortable, casual way, it has a large bar and informal restaurant on the ground floor - opening onto extensive decking for fine weather - and an exclusive cocktail and Martini bar upstairs.

A range of menus is offered, varying through the day and depending on the day of the week, but with the emphasis always on giving quality, variety and value for money in pleasing surroundings - which is no doubt the reason for its popularity.

Trusted suppliers and local produce inform the cooking; the style is colourful, modern and family friendly - good salads, home-made burgers, pasta dishes and fresh fish all feature and, of course, a house favourite is the 10oz fillet steak, served stylishly with marinated Portobello mushrooms, red onion marmalade, garlic mash and red wine jus.

The main evening menus are the more adventurous, but the early bird and Sunday lunch menus offer great value - also an innovative Bru 22 evening menu, offering 3 courses, or 2 courses and a glass of wine for €22.
