River House Restaurant & Cafe Bar

This stylish, friendly and relaxing café is a lovely venue - a pleasing place to have a bite when visiting Cahir
Open from 9am daily; L 12-3 daily; D Thu-Sun (to 9.30, except Sun to 7pm). abbreviations

An attractive frontage with a smart black canopy will draw you to Jennifer Bailey's casual restaurant in a lovely location, opposite Cahir Castle and overlooking the River Suir and weir.

Its location is the USP and the well designed two storey building maximizes on its natural advantages, with a glass extension to the side making it very bright and allowing a view to the river and castle.

The ground floor seating area has a food display/carvery/counter service area and, upstairs, there is a café-bar with better views. Excellent local photograhs on the walls are for sale, and there is also an outside seating area for the summer months.

In line with its location near one of Ireland’s most famous visitor attractions, perhaps, the blackboard menus offer a range of popular dishes - smoothies, sandwiches, homemade quiches, hot dishes, desserts/cakes – presented simply on white plates, to eat at plain wooden tables with good cutlery and paper napkins.

Fairly well-priced – a typical full lunch of homemade vegetable soup, a baked chicken breast with potato and ham stuffing, mashed potatoes and carrots, carrot cake and a coffee to finish will probably set you back a little over €20 - and, with homecooked flavours, it should be a pleasant meal.

Overall, this stylish, friendly and relaxing café is a lovely venue - not necessarily a food destination, but a pleasing place to have a bite when visiting Cahir.

Esther and Joe Barron's business dates back to 1887, and this wonderfully traditional bakery still uses the original Scottish brick ovens to make breads with real flavour and an old-fashioned crust; the range is wide (and well worth investigating), but the Waterford 'bla ...
