Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality.

Poff's (formerly The Breadcrumb)

When Helen Poff says great food, that means the best of local food, mainly from Kerry and the neighbouring counties.
Seats 30 (+ some outside on good days). Open: Mon 8.30am-5pm, Wed-Sun 8.30am-5pm. Closed Tue. abbreviations

Helen Poff, former head breakfast chef at the nearby Park Hotel, took over Manuela Goeb's much loved continental bakery,The Breadcrumb, in 2015 - and for her too, good food is the passion.

Here at this bright and welcoming café, they - as they say themselves - use only the finest and freshest ingredients to create "great food that will fill your belly and warm your heart", at breakfast and lunch. And, as you will notice from the blackboard listing all of the suppliers, when Helen Poff says great food that means the best of local food, mainly from Kerry and the neighbouring counties.

Helen Poff knows that the Irish - and their visitors - love their breakfast and that is her speciality, so the breakfast dishes are carried on into the lunchtime options. And, although there are plenty other tasty (and possibly even healthier!) choices here, you haven't had breakfast in Ireland until you’ve demolished the Full Irish.

Local produce, such as Annascaul sausage and white puddings and Peter O’Sullivan’s Sneem black puddings will feature on that marvellously filling plate. Enjoy it with a slice of freshly baked bread by Harrington’s, along with Follain’s jams and marmalades and the world can do you no harm.

And there is a lot more on offer as the day goes on. You'll notice the display of tempting quiches and salads on your way in, and there are daily specials as well. There will be wholesome soups (broccoli and blue cheese, perhaps, served with their own brown bread) and many regulars pop in especially for the House Salad, featuring Billy Fitzpatrick's beautiful organic leaves and vegetables.

Billy’s spinach will also feature on the Toasted Brioche with a couple of eggs, softly poached by Helen, or you might like to tuck into Peter’s juicy 100% Irish Beef Burger. No matter what the time, you’ll have great choices, including cheeses from St Tola and Coolea and, for sweet-toothed customers,  American style pancakes with maple syrup, fresh fruit and cream....

With such good, tasty food and friendly staff, it's a delightful spot.
