In 2015 the renowned baker and pastry chef Mary McEvoy relocated her bakery and coffee shop from High Street to new premises off Friary Street.
Mary has a national following for her gorgeous looking creations, which are astonishingly detailed - and, more importantly, she pays equal attention to the ingredients, which are all natural and local if at all possible. And, not content with making these fantastic special occasion cakes and cupcakes as gorgeous as they can be, both to look at and to eat, Mary makes sure that they are exquisitely presented in decorative boxes too, so they are perfect for gifts.
The inviting coffee shop serves Java coffee and a selection of her cakes, desserts and baked goods, including wonderful macaroons, pear and almond tart, mini and full sized cup cakes with the most imaginative toppings, home made brown breads and much more.
Attached to the café is Kilkenny Cookery School, which has a demonstration unit for Mary and her husband Neil, as well as eight units for hands on cooking by pupils.
The Cookery School has proved to be very popular and Mary offers a wide range of courses and a cookery class schedule is available on request to suit all ages and levels of ability and experience - first time cooks, amateurs and more adventurous cooks will all find classes to suit.
All are welcome, and especially children. On a typical day, Mary could be hands on teaching a group of 10 year olds how to make scones, pizzas, cup cakes home made meat balls etc and tthey love every minute of it. Her husband Neil McEvoy, who is one of the region's best known chefs, assists Mary with the demonstrations and classes.
