There may not be a written menu or too many healthy options at Nigel and Elllen Parsons' great little bakery and cafe, and their coffee comes in a mug - but it is excellent coffee, made in a proper coffee machine, and there are high-end teas too.
The menu is chalked up on on a board and it is small, but well-considered. Nigel bakes his own bread and makes all of the cakes and buns as well as everything else that comes out of the kitchen. He gets his sausages from Mark’s Meats in Dunmore and the eggs are free-range, from a local farmer.
All of which will come as no surprise to customers who enjoyed Nigel's style when he was Head Chef at The Huntsman in Galway, or who know a bit about his background - he started his career as a commis chef in Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant, and later completed a Culinary Arts degree at GMIT.
Now he has his own place in his wife’s native village of Dunmore and this north County Galway bakery is set to become a destination for discerning travellers, as well as the popular local meeting place that it quickly became.
Specials include Black Pudding potato cakes and in-house pesto for the children’s menu - simple, but very good.
A great place to know about.
