Bo Bristle started out as BrewEyed in October 2010 in Co. Offaly, but relaunched as Bo Bristle at the Irish Craft Beer Festival in the RDS in September 2012.
The name of the brewery comes from Celtic legend, where great importance is attached to the bristles of the boar. The bristles were symbolic of the boar’s strength – just as the Bo Bristle beers are known for their strength, flavour and character.
The brewery is located in the midlands town of Banagher on the banks of the River Shannon. The brewery is carrying on a long brewing tradition in Banagher that goes back to 1834, when there was a distillery, a brewery, two tanyards, a malt house and corn mill there.
The IPA is their flagship beer and the amber ale is a popular later brew. They also produce a pilsner lager and a special edition red ale. The beers aren’t widely available, but check their website for stockists - and look out for them when visiting the area.
