Named after the ruins of the ancient castle which remain within its Darren Clarke-designed championship golf course, Castle Dargan House makes a fine centrepiece for this contemporary hotel and is set amongst dramatic scenery on 170 acres of mature woodlands, with uninterrupted views over the countryside and golf course.
A lovely period drawing room and meeting room within the original house sets the tone for the well-designed new section across a courtyard to the rear of the old house.
A large reception area with high ceilings, warm colour schemes and log fires establish the warm, modern tone that prevails throughout the new areas - the bar is especially striking, featuring a mezzanine level with floor to ceiling windows overlooking a large decking area and the golf course. Alongside is an intimate restaurant, which shares the same views.
Accommodation is mainly in the new area - all bedrooms are finished to a high standard, with the usual amenities, and have views of the golf course - but the suites are in the old house and enjoy a special atmosphere. Apartments separately located at the gate of the hotel are also available, each sleeping up to four people.
The hotel would make a magnificent wedding venue and the function room, an L shaped room with floor to ceiling windows on two sides and a private bar, is in a prime location on the first floor.
