Belfast’s most famous pub, The Crown Liquor Saloon, was perhaps the greatest of all the Victorian gin palaces which once flourished in Britain’s industrial cities. Although now owned by the National Trust (and run by Nicholson's Pubs, famous for their real ales) the Crown is far from being a museum piece and attracts a wide clientèle of locals and visitors.
A visit to one of its famous snugs for a pint and half a dozen oysters served on crushed ice, or a bowl of Irish Stew, is a must - booking advised, if poossible, as this pub is always busy.
The upstairs restaurant section is built with original timbers from the SS Britannic, sister ship to the Titanic.
