This tiny café serves remarkably authentic Italian food at very reasonable prices and has become a favourite with the people of Waterford.
Like the proprietors, Roman Moroz and Andrea Marchesini, the menu is very Italian and they are clear about their food philosophy of simplicity and quality as a source of pleasure in life - you feel as if you've been transported to a back street in Rome or Venice.
You might have the Antipasto Misto to start – a generous plate overflowing with Italian goodies: bresaola, mortadella, Parma Ham and various salamis, with salad and crisp slices of toasted Italian bread dribbled with fruity olive oil. A vegetarian version has dried porcini and tomatoes, with good mozzarella instead of the meats.
For many his would be enough on its own, but the very hungry might follow with mains such as gnocchi carne (little potato dumplings with minced beef and courgette sauce) or tortelloni pomodori (tortelloni stuffed with spinach and ricotta and a good creamy tomato sauce).
You could wash it down with a cheap and very cheerful bottle of Pinot Grigio, finish off with a tiny, intense espresso and come away with a bill under €65 for two.
This is a delightful choice when eating out in Waterford, and is open and serving all sorts of meals and snacks from morning to night - it is a particular hit for its Italian croissant and cappuccino for breakfast.
