Beautifully located at the top of the village and with outdoor tables overlooking Glandore harbour, Hayes Bar has a cosy interior that is full of vintage charm - and the famously 'different' bar food style developed by Ada Hayes over almost a quarter of a century.
In 2014 Declan and Ada Hayes sold the bar to Nicola and Declan Brennan but, to the casual observer, little has changed - it's as if Ada could just be taking a break on the day that you call.
Even the trademark food style has been continued, thanks to the fact that Nicola had worked with Ada and sees no reason to make changes for the sake of change. What a wise move to retain such a quirky USP at a time of predictable bar menus and 'everything seems the same'.
The soup still reminds you of the kind your granny used to make and the open sandwiches are unique. Pretty much everything that makes Hayes’ special is still there, including the crockery collected on Declan and Ada’s frequent trips abroad - which also influenced the menu, inspiring favourites like Croque Monsieur and a tapas menu.
By any standards, Hayes’ is an outstanding bar - and, on a good day, the view over the harbour is stupendous.
