Langs Bar & Restaurant

In situ since 1890 and still with the old front bar pretty much intact, this North Sligo classic is known for its excellent pints of Guinness and wholesome, well sourced food

Formerly a pub, grocery and drapery store - in situ since 1890 and still with the old front bar pretty much intact - this North Sligo classic is known for its excellent pints of Guinness and wholesome food.

The present owner, John Burke, is the second generation of the Burke family to run this fine hostelry, his father moving to this attractive village in 1945 to work for John Lang of Grange in their long established business.

Although the newer back bar would be the place of preference for locals meeting over a pint or a bite of pub grub, the traditional old grocery bar at the front is one of a vanishing breed - reminiscent of Dick Macs in Dingle, Morrisseys in Abbeyleix or Levis Corner House of Ballydehob - and it’s an absolute delight for visitors to find such an authentic gem.

The Burkes have recently added a restaurant where the drapery once was and, in this intimate and cosy area (complete with open fire for chilly days), they serve hearty, well sourced meals.

Meat is from local Burns butchers in Grange, fish comes from Molloy’s of Killybegs and, along with all the normal staples of a full bar, you will find craft beer from the Donegal Brewing Company.

Expect classic choices such as steak sandwich, fish and chips, bangers and mash (made with the local butcher’s handmade sausages and served with spring onion & bacon mash), homemade burgers, popular chicken dishes, a good choice of fish and several vegetarian and coeliac-friendly dishes.

A good place to stop for a bite of lunch on your way to Bundoran, perhaps - or any time at all.
