Loch Lein Country House Hotel

Offering seclusion, lake and mountain views, good food and good value, Annette and Paul Corridan’s comfortably appointed small hotel is one to seek out.
Rooms 23. B&B €75-85 pps. D Mon-Sat, from €40. Restaurant closed D Sun; hotel closed mid-Oct to mid-Apr. MasterCard, Visa. abbreviations

Just a short distance outside Killarney town on the Ring of Kerry route, Annette and Paul Corridan's small lakeside hotel is beautifully located, with views of the Macgillicuddy Reeks.

Although conveniently located for everything could wish to do in the area, it's a hidden gem, quietly tucked away from roads and other properties there is nothing between you and that lake and mountain view.

But, lovely as it is, there's much more to Loch Lein than its setting. This special hideaway is also one of the most comfortable places to stay in the area and makes a great base for an active holiday - and with a fine restaurant, too, so you don't have to go out again in the evening after a long day out and about.

The rooms - some of which have a lake view - are exceptionally spacious and well appointed, with easy chairs to relax in, good lighting and all the necessary amenities. The big comfy beds are neatly made up with traditional blankets, but duvets are available, if preferred, and also alternative pillows. The bathrooms, too, are very well designed with separate bath and shower.

The lounging areas around the hotel are also very comfortable and there's even a telescope for guests who would like to get a closer look at the magnificent scenery and its wildlife.

Annette and Paul are a very professional couple who have thought of everything for their guests' comfort - and they are always on hand to share local knowledge.

Loch Lein offers a high degree of comfort and personal service at a moderate price - you'll be glad you found it.

Restaurant

Breakfast and dinner are served in this spacious, comfortably furnished room. With large windows taking full advantage of the beautiful location, it is bright and welcoming in the morning and takes on a softer, more intimate ambience in the evening - when you can enjoy a drink in the bar (which also shares that wonderful outlook).

'Homegrown and local' is the philosophy and the Loch Lein kitchen team take pride in introducing guests to local foods, including meats like Fossa lamb and prime beef from the local butchers, Cronins of Killarney.

Fish and seafood dishes include treats like freshly caught trout, Dingle Bay Crab and Spillanes of Killarney smoked salmon, and the cooking style covers a range from classic to contemporary, offering something for all tastes.

The details are good, down to the last handmade chocolate with your coffee, and afterwards you can slip out to garden on fine summer evenings and enjoy the last of the daylight with a quiet drink, as you watch the shadows gathering on the lake. Magic.
