A member of the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland (ACBI), this family-run butchers shop has awards a-plenty on its walls and is first port of call for many visitors to the town.
Independent judges from the Irish Food Writers' Guild have given top marks to their sausages every year since 2001, including the title of Supreme Champion Butchers Sausage, which they have won on no less than five occasions.
Established by Michael McGettigan in 1952, Ernan and Diarmuid McGettigan celebrated the diamond anniversary of their business in 2012 with European recognition - and the honour of being made Chevaliers of the prestigous Commanderie des Fins Goustiers du Duche d’Alencon, France. High praise indeed.
But, excellent as they undoubtedly are, there is much more to McGettigans than their award-winning sausages - anyone who has ever visited their fine shop will know that they offer a full range of range of carefully sourced and skilfully butchered Irish meats: the displays of award-winning sausages may be impressive, but beef, pork, lamb, chicken and dry cured bacon are all well represented too.
