Dating back to 1978, Philip and Joss Horgan's characterful restaurant high up over the harbour is one of Kinsale's longest-established.  It is also one of the most popular and, housed in a series of rooms, it has great atmosphere and a garden terrace, which makes a nice spot for drinks and coffee or dining outside in fine weather.

Philip and Joss's son Daniel is now in the kitchen and - while he has introduced a more modern tone to the cooking - he continues to present a choice of seasonal menus (early dinner, set dinner, à la carte and, in recent times, Sunday lunch) that major on seafood but offer plenty else besides, including several vegetarian choices and ever-popular duck, steak and lamb.

While pleasing a clientele with fairly traditional tastes and playing to the strengths of top quality local produce, the cooking has always included some imaginative ideas - and there's usually a good buzz, which adds hugely to the enjoyment of a meal here.

Simple, well-made desserts include good ice creams.

Service is cheerful and efficient and, unlike many other restaurants in the Kinsale area, which are seasonal, Man Friday is open in the winter.
