One of Ireland's finest and best-loved pubs, Morrissey's is a handsome building on the wide main street of this attractive little town. It's a great place to lift the spirits while taking a break between Dublin and Cork - food is not its strength but a quick cup of coffee and enjoyment of the atmosphere is sometimes all that's needed, perhaps with a sandwich or scone.
It first opened as a grocery in 1775, when it started life as a thatched one-storey house and in 1880 it was rebuilt as the lofty two-storey premises we see today, with high shelf-lined walls and a pot belly stove to gather round on cold days.
They have a list of people who have served their time at Morrissey's since 1850 - and, true to the old tradition, television, cards and singing are not allowed.
