Newpark Hotel

Very much at the heart of local activities, this popular 1960s hotel on the N77 enjoyed a major extension and renovation programme in recent years, with an upgrading of all facilities
Conference/banqueting (800/580). Rooms 129 (50 executive, 16 shower only, 10 no-smoking, 3 for disabled). B&B from about €45pps. Lift. Children welcome (under 4s free in parents' room; cot available without charge). No pets. Open all year. abbreviations

Popular since the 1960s this large, established hotel underwent a major renovation in recent years that saw an upgrading of all facilities. Just a ten-minute walk from the city centre it’s ideally placed for conducting business in The Marble City with ample free parking, comfortable public areas and good meeting and conference facilities.

Bedrooms are modern, comfortable and clean lined with all the mod cons you’d expect, though bottled water needs to be requested.

The Scott Dove Bar & Bistro, accessible via the hotel or directly from the car park, serves carvery lunches and is a relaxed spot for a casual and filling evening meal. There’s also a formal restaurant, Gulliver’s, which overlooks the hotel’s gardens and serves modern fare. This smart room is also where hotel guests take breakfast, which is a fairly standard buffet set-up.

The smart Escape Health Club extension is popular with locals as well as hotel guests and includes a 52-foot swimming pool and individual kids pool. There’s a small spa and the stylish sauna and steam room are trumped by a lovely outdoor hot tub which benefits from peaceful views onto the leafy grounds.

With excellent value deals, families are especially well catered for, with dedicated family rooms and interconnecting rooms available. A kids club runs in season and there’s a toddlers playground as well as movie room with games consoles for older kids. The hotel’s unique pet farm, complete with alpacas, llamas, pigs, rabbits, chickens, geese, goats, donkeys and Highland cows is a great new addition, especially as admission is free.
