The Thatch

This coffee shop is really special: a listed building dating back to the late 18th century, it’s the only originally thatched building remaining in County Fermanagh
Open Mon-Sat. 9-5 (from 10 off-season). Closed Sun. MAsterCard & Visa accepted on orders over £10. abbreviations

The Clarke family's coffee shop is really special: a listed building dating back to the late 18th century - and predating the famous Belleek Pottery - it’s the only originally thatched building remaining in County Fermanagh.

Peter and Maureen Clarke are rightly proud of their lovely little cafe, which is full of character and was re-thatched in 2014 so it's currently looking as good as new.

Home-made food has been served here since the early 1900s and the tradition is being well-maintained today, with Maureen and her daughter Jeanne preparing home baking  and deliciously simple meals for a steady stream of regulars as well as visitors to the village.

Typically you'll find home-made soups, a range of freshly made sandwiches and toasted sandwiches all made to order, hot specials like stuffed baked potatoes and (best of all) delicious bakes like chocolate squares, carrot cake and muffins.

Drinks include a coffee menu and, more unusually, you can also buy fishing tackle, hire a bike, a camper van - or even a holiday cottage here.

Lyons Cafe & Bakeshop

Sligo, Co. Sligo

Baking/Bakery / Café / Producers Shop
1 euro Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality.

Anyone visiting Sligo should make a point of calling into the magnificently traditional Lyons Department Store, in business since 1835 and still with its original shopfront. It’s a joy to find a quirky owner-run store these days and, on the first floor, they have a ...

This terrific little place took Sligo by storm as soon as it opened. Fabio Boni is from Florence and, after some years in food service, he set up this tiny café and takeaway. The fare is simple but of the best - his trademark ice creams, of course, plus just a fe ...
