Torrinos

The Westport version of the friendly, neighbourhood good value restaurant that every town needs, Torrinos has catered for all occasions, age groups, locals and visitors since 1996
Seats about 40 indoors (20 outside). Open Tue-Sun, 5.30 to 9.30. 2 course early D, €19.50, 5.30-7.00. Times can change during the Summer season. abbreviations

The Reidy family's popular town centre restaurant always has a buzzy atmosphere and, even on a cold night, the heated covered area outside will be well filled with diners enjoying themselves.

The Westport version of the friendly, neighbourhood good value restaurant that every town needs, Torrinos has catered for all occasions, age groups, locals and visitors since 1996. The main restaurant is a split level room in the style of a modern trattoria - solid timber floor, sturdy tables and chairs, well decorated walls with framed Italian prints and memorabilia. The local front of house staff are friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and the the atmosphere is always warm and buzzy.

Billed as 'authentic Italian and fine seafood' the menu is wide-ranging, with the emphasis on locally sourced fish, meat, and vegetables, and there's a daily specials board too.

There are plenty of old favourites among the starters - mussels, prawns, crab ravioli, garlic mushrooms among others - ranging from about €7 to €10.50. A wide choice of about 30 home-made pasta and pizza dishes range from about €13 to €17 and are good value in both quality and quantity; of the half dozen seafood rice and pasta dishes, the stars are Sea Jewels in a bag and a good seafood risotto (€17.50).

Main course fish dishes are mainly offered on the specials board - hake in a paper parcel (€23), perhaps, and roast sea-bream on a bed of Italian greens (€22.00) - and are well cooked and presented.

Kelly's of Newport is the main meat supplier and his slow roasted pork and the famous 21-day aged steaks feature, along with some chicken dishes - there may be extra meat and poultry dishes on the specials board, and a few more on the main menu would be a welcome addition.

A choice of five good home-made desserts complete the food picture - and , to accompany, the wine list of 24 wines covers Old and New World regions and 15 of them are priced at under €30. House wines are €19.50, and two wines are offered by the glass at €5.50.
