Mountrath, Co. Laois

Mountrath is a beautiful region of central Ireland, at the foot of the unspoilt Slieve Bloom Mountains.

For hillwalkers the Slieve Bloom Way , a seventy kilometre mountain walk is within a few miles of Mountrath. There are also many shorter walks ideally suited to the less experienced walker. There is also horse riding facilities a short distance away and there are numerous golf courses locally.

Birr Castle Gardens, with their world famous arboretum and science centre are about 30 kilometres (19 miles) away.

The white horse river flows through it and now has calming river walks with the sounds of the waterfall. There is a fine Golf course of 18 holes. Ballyfin Demesne (The once home of Sir Coote) and the ruins of the Fitzpatrick Castle in Castletown where the River Nore flows both just minutes away.
