Straffan, Co. Kildare

Straffan (Sruthan, the stream in Irish) is a small village close to Celbridge and Maynooth . It has many local attractions including the Steam Museum and Butterfly Farm. The area is possibly best known for its highly succesful staging of the 2006 Ryder Cup in the 5 star Kildare Hotel & Country Club (K Club) on the outskirts of the village, which is also the venue for the Smurfit European Open every year.

Straffan Butterfly Farm is elegant and unique and is Ireland's first live Tropical Exhibition. It is an indoor, all weather centre & you can enjoy the beauty of both exotic butterflies and plants.

Morrell Farm is a great day out for children and adults. It is a unique open farm, offering a warm welcome to visitors. There is a picnic area and real home baking is available at the coffee shop.

At the Guinness Steam Museum you will be able to visit the power hall displaying full size "live steam" engines, a walled garden, a teahouse, a multi-media information channel and a hands-on area.
