Trim is a small town located in County Meath, on the banks of the river Boyne about 45km. (28 miles) North-West of Dublin. The name comes from the Irish 'Baile Atha Troim', which translates as 'the town of the ford of the alder trees' and its origin dates back to the 5th. century A.D.
Among its more recent claims to fame is the filming of a major part of 'Braveheart' there in 1994/95. Now the castle has been very successfully restored and opened to the public. The reconstruction has made minimal changes to the Castle and makes the best use of the existing structure with minimal alterations.
The Town Hall, known locally as the Market House, is reputed as one of Thin Lizzy's first concert venues, and has seen U2 and several other bands of worldwide influence play there over the years.
An annual classic car show takes place in Trim every July, Trim Veteran and Vintage Rally has been running since 1985.
Trim Haymaking Festival is another festival held in the town every mid-June. The Porchfields, an amenity space rich in historic value, are home to a fair, market, and cultural displays.The main event being the traditional making of the first hay of the year by hand and by old method machinery.
An Agricultural Show also takes place in the show in the first week of September each year, named "The Trim Show", and features trained dogs, as well as horses, cattle, sheep, pigs and goats.
