Ann and Tom Crosbie’s large nineteenth century farmhouse is approached up a driveway off the main road to Arthurstown, and has magnificent views across the estuary.

It is a spacious house and makes a very comfortable and hospitable place to stay at a reasonable price; it would be ideal for a family holiday as there's’s a safe, enclosed playground for children beside the house - and they also enjoy the unusual farm animals - deer, highland cattle and Jacob sheep - which the Crosbies keep in paddocks around the house. There are no less than 15 sandy beaches nearby and loads of activities - the Hook Lighthouse to visit, of course, and the greenway opening, also great walks, cycling and golfing in the area.

A pleasant guest drawing room has plenty of comfortable seating with excellent views down to the harbour and across the estuary, and the immaculately maintained bedrooms are very large, as are the en-suite bathrooms.

Guest rooms are of two types: the newer ones are bright and individually decorated in quite a contemporary style, with smart bathrooms; the original rooms are more traditional, with a cosy atmosphere - and all of the rooms have sea views.

Service is a priority: the Crosbies take pride in giving their guests personal attention and lots of advice on local attractions and amenities.

And the Crosbies also believe in sending everyone off well-fed for the day. A really good breakfast offers home-baked breads, fresh and cooked fruits, organic porridge, and the range of hot dishes includes Glendine omelette pancakes, French toast and smoked salmon with poached eggs, as well as the full Irish.

*Glendine House was our Farmhouse of the Year in 2006.
