Another of the growing number of Dublin restaurants that start with wine and make food a secondary element, this stylish first floor restaurant above McSorleys pub is the brainchild of former Ely manager, Kevin McMahon, so the emphasis on wine should come as no surprise.
The predictably impressive wine list offers an exceptionally good choice at reasonable prices, and includes about two dozen by the glass.
On the food side an eclectic selection of popular dishes is offered, including some available as starters or main courses (Greek salad; beetroot, green bean and goats cheese salad, both at €9/14); there’s a good sprinkling of vegetarian and seafood dishes but the big crowd pleaser is the chargrilled dry aged rib-eye steak, offered with a choice of three types of potatoes and three sauces.
With crisp white linen, generous wine glasses, attractive spoon back chairs – and lots of bottles – there’s a stylish ambience and this, together with welcoming and helpful staff, and a different offering from other restaurants in the area, make it a popular place so reservations are recommended, especially at weekends.
