Located in Sligo’s Italian Quarter, A Casa Mia is casual dining at its best. One huge communal table takes up most of the room, though there are a few small tables along the front and side too. The tables along the side are unusual in that they have bookshelves set over them, creating a cosy, intimate setting.
There’s also plenty of outdoor seating in the lane and, in the warmer months, they even run outdoor movie nights where they project classic old movies onto the building opposite. The restaurant also hosts occasional events like wine tastings and coffee demos.
Serving breakfast and lunch straight through to dinner, the menu is small but well balanced. For breakfast, you could try pancakes, eggs Benedict, spicy chorizo potatoes, organic porridge, granola or a freshly baked muffin. Brunch is served until 3pm at weekends and gluten-free options are available too.
Lunch includes homemade soups, lasagna, pies, quiche or a vegetarian shepherd’s pie, while freshly made sandwiches, wraps and ciabattas are also available for takeaway.
The dinner menu offers small tapas-style portions – perfect if you just want a little something to eat with a glass of wine, or you could order two or three dishes or a sharing platter if you have a bigger appetite.
Choices range from small bites like marinated olives, toasted almonds or grilled vegetables to salads, seafood or meat dishes. Their homemade ravioli changes often and is a popular option, and their Italian-style pork sausages, served with caramelised onions and toasted ciabatta, are made by local butcher Clarkes, to their own secret recipe.
Their popular desserts are all homemade and might include such choices as a towering rhubarb meringue pie, apple crumble tart, chocolate biscuit cake or lemon drizzle cake.
There’s a small but good selection of wine as well as port, Peroni beer and Breton cider, so there will be something for everyone.
No children’s menu is available, but the small portions and options like meatballs, beef sliders or fishcakes should keep younger diners satisfied.
An excellent choice for a casual meal at any time of day.
