Caviston's of Sandycove has long been a mecca for lovers of good food - here you will find everything that is wonderful, from organic vegetables to farmhouse cheeses, cooked meats to specialist oils and other exotic items. But it was always for fish and shellfish that Cavistons were especially renowned - even providing a collection of well-thumbed recipe books for on-the-spot reference.

At their little restaurant next door, they serve an imaginative range of healthy seafood dishes influenced by various traditions and all washed down by a glass or two from a very tempting little wine list.

Head chef Noel Cusack's food at Cavistons is simple, colourful, perfectly cooked - it speaks volumes for how good seafood can be.

Start with Cavistons smoked salmon plate, perhaps, or tasty panfried crab and sweetcorn cakes with red pepper mayonnaise, then follow with seared king scallops with a saffron and basil sauce - or a more traditional panfried haddock fillet with tartare sauce.

This Dublin restaurants gorgeous desserts include timeless favourites like chocolate brownies with chocolate sauce & cream, or you can finish with a selection of Cavistons cheeses (they sell a great range in the shop).

Don't expect bargain basement prices though - this may be a small lunch time restaurant, but the prime ingredients are costly - and it's a class act.

Food Emporium:

Dublin is fortunate to have a half dozen or so outstanding food stores and the number one, for many regular shoppers, would be this treasure of a fish shop, deli and speciality food store.

The Caviston family have been here since 1947 and this characterful shop now offers en extensive choice of speciality food products, a wide range of whitefish and shellfish with live crab, lobster and oysters available from a tank in-store. Home smoked salmon is a speciality - and so is old-fashioned service. Open Mon-Sat.
