Beautifully situated in an elevated position overlooking Lough Ree, the Reid family’s impressive hotel has been developed around their fine old family home; although the golfing dimension has earned an international reputation as one of Ireland’s premier inland courses, the hotel is equally geared to business guests and non golfers, and it is a lovely place to stay.

Bright and contemporary, with a welcoming atmosphere, it has grown a lot, and each addition has been carefully designed to enhance the property. Since a major upgrade in 2010 this beautifully situated hotel has also become highly desirable as a wedding venue.

The warmly furnished bar and restaurant undergo fairly regular reinventions, most recently adding floor-to-ceiling glass windows to make the most of the lovely views down over the lough - and there's a cosy log stove, too, for chilly days.

Evening meals feature favourites such as panfried beef medallions, slow-braised rack of lamb and perhaps a pan-seared seabass with cheesecake, chocolate brownie and crème brulée to follow. A large outdoor terrace is the ideal place to relax with a pre-dinner drink while taking in views over the golf course and of course, the lough.

The spacious, gently contemporary bedrooms are thoughtfully furnished and most have balconies to make the most of excellent views of the lough or over the golf course at the back; the new Master Suites have separate sitting rooms and, allowing for all weathers, a fire and a private terrace.

Whatever the reason for your visit, this is a lovely place to stay.
